    • Our Prelude this morning was composed by Michael Helman who was moved by the destruction and devastation he saw when he first visited “Ground Zero” after September 11, 2001.  The four opening chords of this piece represent the four planes that crashed that day.  The chords include all twelve tones of the chromatic scale to symbolize the effect terrorism has on everyone.

    • Leader:   As we gather, may the peace of God rest upon our busy lives so that we may be quieted into prayer.
    • People:   May the love of God flow through our worship words that we may become alive with opportunities for service.
    • Leader:   May the grace of God seek out our every need.
    • People:   And may the restless gospel set our hearts on fire.
    • ALL:      LET US WORSHIP OUR GOD TOGETHER!
  • Hymn 483:  “Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above” – MIT FREUDEN ZART
  • Call to Confession and Prayer  (unison)
    • God who loves us, you have always given us what we need.  You have taken care of us even when we could not care for ourselves.  You have given us breath and life.  Why is it that we still doubt you?  Why do we still go on our own way, rebelling against you?  Why do we persist in doing everything our own way?  God, we have hurt ourselves and others by being so fiercely independent.  Give us courage enough to place our trust in you.  Through the constant presence of the Spirit, hear our silent prayers of return …
  • Assurance of Pardon – Christiaan Faul and congregation
    • Leader:   With God, there is no chasm that cannot be bridged, no loss that cannot be recovered, no mistake that cannot be forgiven, and no life that cannot be redeemed.
    • People:   By the grace of God in Christ Jesus, our sins are forgiven and the ability to begin again is ours.
    • Leader:   Glory be to God who makes all things new!

  • Affirmation of Faith – Christiaan Faul and congregation
    • We believe that God hopes and works for a world where all shall be included in the feast of life and that in Christ we see how costly it is to bring that world about.
    • We believe that God of all the earth is at work beyond the churches as well as within them, working for justice so that all may have a say in what happens to them.
    • We long for the time when all who hunger and thirst for justice shall be satisfied and we believe that despite the persistence of evil, now is always the time when more good can be done and we can make a difference.  Amen.
