Tell me about the Pastor

Reverend Joel Weible was ordained as a Teaching Elder (Minister of Word and Sacrament) of the PCUSA in November of 1999 after completing his Master of Divinity degree at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.  Pastor Joel, as he’s known, also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, both in the Theatre Arts.  In addition, he is a Fellow in Pastoral Leadership Development at Princeton Theological Seminary.

He is the husband of Katie Blackerby Weible, one of the Theatre Faculty at DuPont Manual’s Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville.  He is also the father of Sam, Annie, and Gabe.

Since coming to Pewee Valley Presbyterian Church in the Fall of 2008, Reverend Weible has been a part of church growth, especially the deeper and broader growth of vibrant and vital ministries.  He reminds us always that “church growth” is not the goal of good ministry, it is the result.  He seeks always to encourage and enable the full involvement of every member and the broadest expanse of ministry possible in order to attract those who have yet to experience the community here.

In addition to preaching, teaching, administering the Sacraments, and providing pastoral care to the congregation, Reverend Weible was the Chair of Mid-Kentucky Presbytery’s Congregational Development Unit for six years, served on the Board of Directors for Cedar Ridge Camp, a PCUSA summer camp in Jefferson County, and Chaired Mid-Kentucky Presbytery’s Commission on Ministry.  He is currently serving on the Presbytery’s Commission on Preparation for Ministry..

More personal interests include reading, writing, watching almost any sporting event, traveling with his family, and even playing a little guitar (very little guitar).

Now that you’ve met him “online,” stop in and meet him in person.  You’ll find an outgoing but pensive, thoughtful but spontaneous, and discerning but open, person who believes that wherever else truth is found, it is also found in the eternal conversation.  Come join him and the members of PVPC as we seek the truth together.
